Target Audience
Age
My target audience age is going to be 15 and above. This is because the movie that I am making is suitable and has a bbfc rating 15. This is due to the movie including moderate violence/ sex related scenes in the film. It may also feature drug related issues but cannot emphasise too strongly on the point and encourage it. I chose this age group because as teenagers, they tend to be more interested in more violent films which include more serious types of subjects but also cover the lifestyle of teenager’s e.g. kidulthood/adulthood. Research shows that teenagers from the age of 15 are interested in watching horror films and are quite attracted by it.
Gender
My aim is to attract both females and males; however my main audience will be in particular males. This film contains violence, gruesome and bloody scenes which is what mainly attracts teenage boys. Also girls may be likely to be interested in this as well due to the main actor being a female and the story revolving around her. Back when the film industry started it was typically stereotyped with a male lead being in the focus, having to face and a problem and at the end with him usually saving the day like a hero. Whereas, in the recent years there have been more films with a woman being the prime focus and being shown in different forms which have only been played by men in the past. Teenagers in specific have mostly been given side roles where they play alongside a main actor but are not the main lead. However, this film is based on a female teenager in a horror film which is going to be quite complex in showing which is the target audience.
Nationality
The film will be shot in the U.K in various locations. My main aim is to mainly attract the people living there. Also, the film is going to be spoken in the language English so it’s probably most likely going to be watched by those who understand and speak the language. But as I do wish to attract people from all cultures, I will be applying subtitles in the different languages and also will be getting people from different countries to speak over the film lyrics in specifics languages so that they also understand. This also benefits those people who have are from a British nationality but cannot speak or understand the language English. However, seeing as the cast will be speaking in a British accent and so people from outside Britain may not be able to understand the whole concept of the film due to the language.
Sexuality
My film will not be discriminating against any individuals and so the sexuality of the audience doesn’t matter. Anyone, whatever their sexuality is, is allowed to watch the film. However in the film, there is a relationship portrayed which is of a male and female being in a relationship suggesting that they are both straight and that they are attracted to the other gender. But that doesn’t mean that the film wouldn’t appeal to other sexualities.
Ethnicity
I hope that the film attracts different people from all over the world as I do wish that it would appeal to everyone and so everyone benefits from this. So the film doesn’t have a main ethnicity group to which I would think it would appeal to in particular. I did wish to use actors/actresses from around the film industry worldwide. However if I did do this, I would then have to consider the possibilities that my target audience wouldn’t watch it if they haven’t seen something involving these different actors/actresses before and so may not feel attracted to the film. Therefore I decided it would be best if I used a British known cast which my target audience is already familiar with.
Social/Economic group
I would think that my film would appeal to the working class in particular but also the middle class too. This is because due to some research I found that the genre horror is most watched by the working and middle class. I wouldn’t expect anyone from the upper class to watch this film due to them being from such wealthy background who wouldn’t normally go to cinema in general so watching a horror film wouldn’t really be an attraction for them.
Fans
I hope that those people who are interested in scary and gory films including supernatural beings will be attracted to my film. This is because my film is going to be about something unnatural which is terrifying to the viewers but also believable so that they don’t think that its fake and not real. They have to really get into the film so that they will feel more interested in it and carry on watching the film the whole way.
